The pink/purple flowers of Upland Ironweed bloom in clusters in June to September and attract a large variety of pollinators. This includes butterflies and moths, flies, beetles, and various types of bees including bumble bees and specialist bees. The plants have a bushy structure with lance-shaped leaves and reach heights up to 5 feet tall. The new growth of Vernonia species is often slow to emerge in the spring.
