Purple-top is a showy warm season grass that grows 3 to 5 feet. Most of its height comes from the purple panicles that it displays in an airy formation in July to October. The seedheads have an oily feel and are used by native birds. Its foliage is also used as a host plant for a variety of butterfly caterpillars, including Zebulon Skippers, Crossline Skippers, Hobomok Skippers, Little Glassywings, and more. Deer Resistant.
