Calico Aster
Symphyotrichum lateriflorum

Height: 3-4 ft
Spread: 2 ft
Bloom Time: September-November
Sunlight: Full Sun to Part Shade
Soil Moisture: Wet, Moist, Medium, Dry, Very Dry
Life Cycle: Perennial

A large number of flowers cover the bushy structure of Calico Aster in late summer/fall. Its flower petals are white to pink (often with purple centers), and it is among the last plants to bloom in fall. Because it blooms at a time when not many other nectar/pollen sources are available, Calico Aster is often humming with a large diversity of pollinators: wasps, bees, flies, butterflies, moths, and beetles. Calico Aster thrives in a wide variety of different growing conditions: wet to dry soils and both open meadows to shaded woods with scattered sunlight.
