Star Chickweed
Stellaria pubera

Height: 6-12 in
Spread: 6-12 in
Bloom Time: April-June
Sunlight: Part Shade to Shade
Soil Moisture: Medium, Dry, Very Dry
Life Cycle: Perennial

This early-blooming native chickweed species has white flowers that are around ½ inch wide. The five flower petals are deeply cut (resembling ten petals instead). It develops a short but bushy structure and is used by insects that need an early source of nectar. This includes halictid bees, mason bees, and cuckoo bees. Star Chickweed thrives in wooded or shaded areas and can even grow in rocky locations.
