Tall Goldenrod
Solidago altissima ssp. altissima

Height: 4-6 ft
Spread: 2-3 ft
Bloom Time: August-October
Sunlight: Full Sun to Part Shade
Soil Moisture: Wet, Moist, Medium, Dry, Very Dry
Life Cycle: Perennial

The yellow flowers of Tall Goldenrod bloom in August to October, forming a cone-like structure at the top of the erect stems. The leaves are lance-shaped and densely cover the stems. This goldenrod species spreads to form large colonies by roots and should be given plenty of space to spread in habitat corridors. Its stems reach heights of around 4 to 6 feet and are taller than most other goldenrod species. The flowers are used by MANY native insects during its late summer/fall bloom time, including native wasps. Tall Goldenrod thrives in a diverse array of environments and grows well in both wet and very dry soils. Deer typically do not bother this species unless little else is available as a food source.
