Fire Pink
Silene virginica

Height: 1-2 ft
Spread: 1 ft
Bloom Time: April-July
Sunlight: Full Sun to Part Shade
Soil Moisture: Dry, Very Dry
Life Cycle: Perennial

The bright red flowers of Fire Pink are 1 or more inches wide and loved by hummingbirds for nectar. Each of the narrow petals have a characteristic notch at the end. Leaves on this species are mainly at the base of the plant. As a catchfly, its flower parts are sticky to deter non-pollinating insects from stealing its nectar. In sunnier areas, it grows in very dry, often rocky, soils. When in shady locations, it thrives in dry and very dry soil.
