Senna marilandica

Height: 3-4 ft
Spread: 2-3 ft
Bloom Time: July-August
Sunlight: Full Sun to Part Shade
Soil Moisture: Moist, Medium, Dry, Very Dry
Life Cycle: Perennial

A long-lived member of the pea family with leafy branching stems and a shrub-like appearance. Yellow flowers are close to the sturdy central stem and contain only pollen, not nectar. Bumble bees collect this pollen to feed their young. The nectar is separate from the flower at extrafloral nectaries positioned on leaf stalks near the stem. Large black legume seedpods follow. A host plant for Cloudless Sulpher, Orange-Barred Sulphur, and Sleepy Orange Butterflies. Deer Resistant.
