SCHEDULING A NURSERY VISIT
Thank you for your interest in requesting a nursery visit! To support our new mission, our nursery appointments are available to anyone interested in creating habitat corridors on their properties.
to see how habitat corridors differ from native plant gardening and landscaping. Our nursery is a good fit for those in Charlottesville, Albemarle, and the
surrounding area of Virginia.
This year, our appointments will serve as consultations that are specific to you and your site. During your visit, we'll discuss your location and planting site with you, sharing plant species from our selection that would be native to your property and provide ecological benefits.
We encourage you to bring any information you may have about your project/plans when you visit. These include photos, descriptions, lists of natives you've identified on your property, and, of course, questions!
Please complete the questions below, and we'll be in touch within three business days. We look forward to hearing from you!
CHOOSING A TIME
We are open by appointment on Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays. Please let us know what times would be best for you. We'll be in touch within three business days to confirm.

CRITERIA FOR PURCHASING PLANTS
Our nursery propagates natives specifically for counteracting habitat loss and to strengthen native plant populations in our area. We happily offer visitations of our selection of thoughtfully and ethically propagated native species to those who align with our mission. Please view our guidelines for purchasing plants below.
TERMS OF AGREEMENT FOR PLANT PURCHASES:
*
I understand that Hummingbird Hill's mission is to help local native plant populations and counteract habitat loss. My reason for purchasing plants is in accordance with this. I agree that this purpose is first and foremost in my plans, with aesthetics being secondary, and my decisions will support this.
*
I agree to plant any purchases in an in-ground location that is suitable for their needs. I will not be displacing other naturally-occurring natives in order to plant these.
I agree that I am purchasing these plants for the purpose of creating a habitat corridor, and I therefore agree to:
*
allow seedheads on any purchased plants to remain standing on the plant through the winter, permitting the seeds to naturally disperse.
encourage all plants to spread as fits the species (providing sufficient area for rhizomatous ones that spread via roots, etc.).
plant species in areas where they can reach their full height potential and will not cut back living stems, prune, or otherwise alter them for aesthetics.
plant all purchases in a loose layout that welcomes the spreading of plants, or in a meadow-like formation.
*
In order to support their ecological functions, I will not use these specifically for human-oriented purposes, such as edible/medicinal uses.
*
I agree to try my best to plant local genotype plants in a permanent location (avoiding transplanting), and I will not dig up and dispose of them.
