Carolina Wild Petunia
Ruellia caroliniensis

Height: 1-2 ft
Spread: 1 ft
Bloom Time: May-September
Sunlight: Full Sun to Part Shade
Soil Moisture: Medium, Dry, Very Dry
Life Cycle: Perennial

The large light purple flowers of Carolina Wild Petunia have five petals and look similar to the unrelated non-native petunia. These flowers bloom for an extended period of time in spring through summer and are arranged close to the main stems, often closing during the heat of the day. The plants have an upright habitat with airy stems and dark green leaves. The seeds are often fed upon by native insects, and Buckeye butterflies use Ruellia species as a host plant for their caterpillars. Deer Resistant.
