It's very fragrant vanilla-scented white flowers bloom in large dangling clusters in April to June. These are especially used by bumble bees and hummingbirds – the major pollinators for this species. Later in the year, legume seedpods form. The many leaflets of Black Locust fold up at night and host a variety of skipper caterpillars including Silver-spotted Skippers, as well as some moths.
