Indian Tobacco
Lobelia inflata

Height: 1-2 ft
Spread: 1 ft
Bloom Time: July-November
Sunlight: Full Sun to Part Shade
Soil Moisture: Moist, Medium, Dry, Very Dry
Life Cycle: Annual

Indian Tobacco grows 1 to 2 feet tall and has prolific light blue flowers that have a long bloom period of July through November. During this time, Halictid Bees visit the blooms. This plant species is related to more commonly known Lobelia species, like Cardinal Flower and Great Blue Lobelia, but it has smaller flowers and can grow in both moist and dry locations. After the flowers are past, inflated round seedpods form with plentiful seeds. Although Indian Tobacco is an annual, completing its life cycle in one year, these abundant seeds help it persist in habitat corridors year after year. Deer Resistant.
