Soil Moisture: Dry, Very Dry (also fluctuating wet and dry areas)

This diminutive self-seeding annual is a St. John's Wort species that has many small yellow flowers that open in the sunshine and close each night. It thrives in conditions that appear inhospitable, including rocky areas, steep or eroding banks, and areas that fluctuate between wet and very dry. The fine, scale-like foliage is unique and forms a bushy structure, while the plant buds take on a reddish color, When the leaves are crushed, they give off a faint citrus odor that provides another common name for this plant: Orange-grass. Deer Resistant.
