This woodland grass species does most of its growing during the cool weather in spring and fall and can reach heights of around 4 feet tall. Its very textured, airy heads resemble bottlebrushes and emerge in May to August, with each spike being several inches long. Northern Pearly Eye butterflies use this species as a host plant to deposit their eggs and inhabit woodland edges where Bottlebrush Grass grows. Bottlebrush Grass is most common in areas with nutrient rich soil. Deer Resistant.
