Buttonbush has white tubular flowers that bloom in June and July. These are arranged in round balls 1 ½'' wide and later turn into distinctive circular seedheads. The leaves on this species are glossy, and the shrubs grow 6 to 12 feet tall. Buttonbush naturally occurs in wet soil and can even grow in standing water around pond edges. Various insects visit the blooms including butterflies, bees, wasps, flies, and hummingbirds. The seeds are used by ducks.
