Arrow-feather
Aristida purpurescens

Height: 2-3 ft
Spread: 1-2 ft
Warm Season, Blooms August-October
Sunlight: Full Sun to Part Shade
Soil Moisture: Very Dry
Life Cycle: Perennial

A short grass of well-drained, dry soil, Arrow-feather reaches heights of 2 to 3 feet tall and does most of its growing during the summer months. The feathery seedheads at the top of this species appear in August through October. Its fine foliage gives the plant a delicate, upright look, and it also goes by another common name of Purple Three-Awn Grass for its somewhat purplish tint. Native Admiral Grasshoppers are one species that use Arrow-feather to raise their young. Deer Resistant.
