Thimbleweed
Anemone virginiana var. virginiana

Height: 2-3 ft
Spread: 1-2 ft
Bloom Time: May-July
Sunlight: Full Sun to Part Shade
Soil Moisture: Medium, Dry
Life Cycle: Perennial

Named after its cylindrical seedheads that resemble thimbles, this species has white to green flowers that are around 1 inch wide. The five-petaled flowers attract small bees and native flies and bloom on upright stems that rise high above the foliage. Thimbleweed occurs naturally in open fields, clearings, and also in wooded areas with scattered light. It prefers sites with nutrient rich soil.
