Acer rubrum

Spread: 30-50 ft
Bloom Time: March-May
Sunlight: Full Sun to Part Shade
Soil Moisture: Wet, Moist, Medium, Dry, Very Dry

One of the first trees to bloom in spring, Red Maples have red to yellowish flowers that bloom in clusters. The bark of young trees is very smooth, becoming rough with age. It is also notable for its brilliant orange and red fall foliage color. Songbirds including Finches, Grosbeaks, and Nuthatches feed upon the floating helicopter-like seeds (samaras). Red Maples thrive in a variety of soil moistures, growing in both wet and very dry soil, and can reach heights of around 60 feet tall.
