WELCOME TO THE NURSERY!
Our retail nursery is dedicating to growing local genotype native plants specifically for counteracting habitat loss and strengthening native plant populations. Are you interested in creating a HABITAT CORRIDOR on your property—an area to support native plants and wildlife from insects to birds and more? Then, we are the right place for you! Jump in, and join us on a mission to make a difference through native plants. Our plants are available to homeowners and business owners in Charlottesville, Albemarle, and the surrounding areas of Virginia who align with our mission. PLEASE NOTE that our nursery has changed to focus solely on helping native plants and counteracting habitat loss. Because we feel passionately about sending our plants to homes where they can make a difference, our plants are happily available to those working to create habitat corridors, but we will no longer be sending them to homes outside of this criteria. Please CLICK HERE to see if your project qualifies as a habitat corridor. We hope you will join us on this exciting new journey to heal the effects of habitat loss and reconnect lost ecosystems by, first, helping native plants. Our nursery is located at: 4190 Free Union Rd Charlottesville, VA 22901 We are open by appointment on Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays. We look forward to seeing you then! At the nursery, every species is labeled with a sign. Sign information includes: map of the species natural distribution, height and spread, plant description, and wildlife interaction notes. Each potted plant also includes a tag with growing information.
HOW WE GROW OUR PLANTS
Our nursery uses organic growing methods to keep our plants safe for the environment, people, and visiting wildlife. We use no sprays or chemicals on our plants. All of our plants, including trees and shrubs, are ethically propagated from seed to promote healthy genetics. We do not propagate through cuttings or rootings. We grow our potted plants with limited fertilizer to ensure proper root development and reduce transplant shock. All plants are nursery propagated. We do not collect plants from the wild or support wild digging or the destruction or removal of native plant species. To keep our footprint low, we reuse our pots! You are welcome to bring them back to the nursery when you are finished planting. |
WHAT WE GROW
Our current inventory includes perennial herbaceous species, with a limited number of trees and shrubs also available. Since we grow natives exclusively for the benefits of nature, our stock is entirely straight species local genotype plants. We do not offer cultivars. All of the plants we offer are local genotype. What does this mean? Our plants are grown in deep pots to encourage strong root systems. Perennials are offered in 4''/1 quart pots. Trees and shrubs are available in 1 gallon, 2 gallon, and 3 gallon sizes. Please schedule an appointment to visit the nursery to purchase plants. We do not ship. |
