The Goals of Growing Native Plants:
to replenish disturbed areas (such as gardens, lawns, and other sites that will not or cannot be allowed to become natural) with native plants that belong in your ecosystem, in an effort to:
-counteract habitat loss by reconnecting fragmented ecosystems
-help native plant populations
-provide food, shelter, etc. for wildlife
What We Grow:
As a family owned and operated small business, we aim to provide a wide selection of high-quality Virginia native plants. Our inventory includes perennials, ferns, vines, grasses, sedges, trees, and shrubs. Since we grow natives exclusively for wildlife and the environment, our stock is entirely straight species plants. We do not offer cultivars.
While native plants can be planted in a beautifully designed garden that's meant to help the ecosystem and wildlife, we don't grow our natives for purely ornamental purposes. If helping the ecosystem through your garden isn't something you're working towards, please save our nursery plants for those who are working hard to make a difference. Thank you!
Our plants are grown in deep pots to encourage strong root systems. Perennials are offered in 4''/1 quart pots. Trees and shrubs are available in 1 gallon, 2 gallon, and 3 gallon sizes. We are a retail nursery, providing the local area with natives well-suited to our location. Please visit the nursery to purchase plants. We do not ship.
All of our plants are nursery propagated. We do not collect plants from the wild or support wild digging or clearing of native plants.
At the nursery, every species is labeled with a sign, above. Sign information includes: map of the species' natural distribution, height and spread, plant description, and wildlife interaction notes. Each potted plant also includes a tag with growing information.
How We Grow Our Plants:
Our nursery uses organic growing methods to keep our plants safe for the environment, people, and visiting wildlife. We use no sprays or chemicals on our plants.
We grow our potted plants with limited fertilizer to ensure proper root development and reduce transplant shock.
To try to keep our footprint low, we reuse our pots! You are welcome to bring them back to the nursery when you are finished planting! Please note that we are are unable to use pots from other nurseries – if you have questions about which are ours, feel free to ask us. Please DO NOT bring pots by that weren't originally from our nursery. Thank you!
